Max Hardcore Goes Away

On Friday, Paul Little (aka "Max Hardcore") was sentenced to 46 months in prison for violating the "community standard" in Florida.

In essence, the product produced by Mr. Little was seen as too extreme for "any decent person" to view. More details here.

I've watched a Max Hardcore movie before. I didn't find it erotic in the slightest. And having peeped a couple of trailers, his "European" content (aka a marketing ploy for unedited films), with women vomiting and gagging on his cock and getting peed on was kind of disturbing.

But considering how long he had been in the business, it had to be popular enough.

I'm not saying that populism should rule, but even though he was pushing the envelope, I think it begs the question:

Who decides what is a community standard?

Why is this not an individual decision?

I'm not going to make the same trite argument about there being worse shit produced in Hollywood (even though there is), but I do wonder where we've gone when I can be arrested for producing something for people to enjoy in their own homes.

Scary thought.
